Hey you beautiful Beastlings! Long time no talk, huh? How the heck are ya?
The last few weeks have been one whale of a blur, but I’ll share that craziness some other time. Right NOW, I’m excited for you to watch the video below and check out the luxurious goodies I received from the people over at Skinny and Co.
Wait, wait, wait. Before I get ahead of myself, let me take a quick sec to give you a little inside scoop!
Pretty recently, I had the opportunity to team up with Skinny & Co. This family owned business goes way above and beyond to produce a coconut oil unparalleled in its quality and distinctiveness. On top of that, they’re the only company in the world to produce 100% raw alkaline coconut oil. Yep! The. only. one.
Now you might be wondering, “Uh, what does ‘raw’ and ‘alkaline’ even mean?”
(I’m so glad you asked!)
What is Raw Food?
Raw experts state eating raw food is “the natural way to nourish your body.” Food is technically considered “raw” when it has never been heated above 117° F. Being exposed to temperatures any higher wipes out a great deal of such nutrients as vitamins, essential amino acids, antioxidants, etc.
You know what happens when we cook our vegetables within an inch of their lives? We’re bamboozling ourselves out of loads of nutrients!
Well, this would be the first of many examples demonstrating Skinny and Co. being a cut above the competition. I say this because their own exclusive method, in order to release the oil from a coconut, uses zero heat. Zilch. Zippo. Nada.
And by not having those hot temps around zapping away the nutritional value, Skinny & Co. is producing a higher quality oil where “all of the raw nutrients of the coconut [are] intact.”
In other words, it’s the “closest you can get to a raw coconut,” Skinny & Co. explains.
Why Does It Matter If Something is Alkaline?
As I briefly mentioned above, Skinny & Co. coconut oil is not only raw, it’s also an alkaline food.
Being that Skinny’s coconut oil is a part of the alkaline family, it has the ability to benefit our pH levels. When it comes to the well-being of the bod, pH levels can play a bigger role than one might think.
So, our body’s pH consists of three states: acidic, neutral, or alkaline. Starting at 0, our pH range tops out at 14, with a pH level of 7 being neutral. Levels falling below 7 are considered acidic and anything above, alkaline.
Although one might assume the body finds perfect balance at a pH of 7, the sweet spot is actually a pH of 7.365, which is slightly alkaline.
Many studies show consuming high-alkaline foods (e.g., healthy oils, fruits and veggies, nuts) helps to prevent the body from repeatedly working overtime in order to maintain healthy pH levels.
Basically, it’s believed when the body is consistently putting forth extra effort in trying to regulate its pH, that’s when things start to go south in response to a highly acidic diet (which includes foods like processed meats, sugar, artificial sweeteners, etc.). And long term, one can develop issues ranging from acid reflux and depression to diabetes to heart disease; the list goes on and on, folks.
