Katie Jenkins has spent her life exploring the world of health and fitness through exercise, nutrition and dance. She is well respected by her clients, colleagues and audiences for being an inspirational fitness trainer, teacher and performer for the past 15 years. In 2008, noticing the rise of obesity in children, Jenkins developed a popular children’s dance fitness program called DanceN’Out. In a partnership with the Denver area schools, Jenkins trained hundreds of elementary school students in this innovative method of exercise and gave them the tools to continue the program on their own. Jenkins was also the lead in a DVD home exercise video for children by the same name.
Shifting focus to a more advanced exercise program, in 2013 Jenkins developed Slide Barre, a cross-training ballet inspired workout focusing on cardio and strength. Jenkins continues to hold Slide Barre classes at universities, private fitness studios and gyms. A certified pilates, dance and fitness instructor, Jenkins is the former owner and operator of Dance Discovery of Denver, a popular studio in Denver where clientele could choose from a myriad of fitness and dance classes at all levels of expertise. Jenkins sold the studio prior to moving to San Diego in the fall of 2013.
An award winning choreographer and professionally trained dancer for 15 years, Jenkins specializes in concert dancing: modern, ballet and contemporary. In addition to performing for audiences worldwide, she has trained international clientele in countries such as Canada, Croatia, Bosnia, Poland and Serbia. Jenkins has danced with many highly respected dance companies including Wylliams/Henry Contemporary Dance Company (Kansas City), Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, City Dance Ensemble (Washington DC), TILT Contemporary Dance Company (Maui), Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble (Denver) and Malashock Dance Company (San Diego).
Passing her knowledge to the next generation of dancers, Jenkins has served as a master instructor at many universities including the University of Nevada- Las Vegas, University of Wyoming, Williams College, Georgia College and State University and University of Missouri- Kansas City. Katie is the author of the e-book, 75+ Insanely Effective Weight Loss Tips You Probably Haven’t Tried, and is a published writer for online publications such as BlogHer, The Human Diet Daily, Womanly Woman and Henpicked. Katie’s most recent endeavor is the healthy living blog Hungry Beastling, where she offers practical and unique tips on how to become healthy and fit.
