Oscar soiree’s are hot these days and what pairs well with a party? That’s right, food! If you’re going to be watching the Oscar’s in style this Sunday, follow these eating tips to make sure you go home a winner.
Don’t Make a Bee Line for the Buffet Table
If your hosts have a table full of food, wait a little while before noshing. For me, it’s like breaking the seal. Once I start, I have a hard time stopping. The Academy Awards last a long time and you will have plenty of opportunities to grab some grub.
Don’t Miss a Thing
Take a gander of all your options before loading your plate. Pick your top two to three favorites and take bigger helpings of those choices. Then take a couple bite serving of the other tasty, but not-to-die-for dishes. That way, you are getting to taste everything you want, but you’re not blowing it.
Like Your Liquor, Don’t Love It
I know I’ve said it before, but it’s worth mentioning again, try to limit the alcohol. First of all, if you like the fancy schmancy, fru-fru drinks (which I definitely do), they are chock-full o’ calories and having only a couple will set you back a few hundred calories. Secondly, liquor sets off the hypothalamus, a part of the brain that is responsible for regulating hunger. When that humdinger gets going, it leads you to believe that you’re hungrier than you probably really are. And third, alcohol lowers those inhibitions of yours, making you feel little to no guilt when you inhale that plate full of brownies.
Healthy, Healthy Side Dish
Go ahead, be THAT person. So often I go to parties where there’s nothing but decadent, delicious foods with no healthy alternatives and I’m “forced” to feast upon the glorious goodies. There are plenty of yummy low-fat dips out there that you can pair with cut up veggies. An assortment of fruit is a good choice as well. Believe me, there are always people at the party that appreciate a healthy option.
Stay Far Far Away
Eat a stick to your ribs meal and keep your focus away from the food. I understand that sounds kinda craptastic, but there’s a method to my madness. I’ve been to enough parties to know that if I’m talking to people and not really paying attention, one small plate can easily turn into three or four, which turns into the ole, “It’s Sunday, I’ll just start eating better tomorrow and have a fresh start.” Then off you go, headed toward the dessert table with a wicked sweet tooth. And in my experience, that never ends well.
Wear It Form Fitted Style
It’s fun to dress up for your Oscar party so kill two birds with one stone….wear a form fitted outfit! You’ll look beautiful and it’ll keep you from stuffing yourself silly. An article in the Huffington Post agrees that “when you wear loose clothes, you may not register that you are full, making it easier to overeat.” For me, when I wear a form fitted dress, it just gets uncomfortable holding my food gut in the entire night, and that’s why I lighten the load on my plate!
