Hello, hello! How’s the week treating you? Beautifully I hope. So if you haven’t noticed, I’ve been a tad absent the last few weeks. For all who don’t know, I am a professional dancer and around this time of year, I go perform with a modern dance company in Kansas City! My schedule gets busier than usual so I don’t have much time to blog. Well, today I have a guest post for all you wonderful people.
Check out this these great workout suggestions from Shelly Stinson to get you feeling great in your bathing suit.
Summer is just a few weeks away, so you know what that means.
It’s almost bathing suit time.
Now, if you’re like most people (okay, I’ll just say it, if you’re like me), you probably took it a little easy on yourself during the cold winter months, often choosing the couch over the exercise room.
If so, don’t worry. All is not lost and you aren’t doomed to a summer of cover-ups and burying yourself in the sand out of guilt and shame.
Instead, try one (or both!) of the workouts below for a body that is even more ready for your days at the beach.
Workout #1: High Intensity Interval Training
Research has found that high intensity interval training, or HIIT, has tons of benefits. Not only does it help burn more calories than traditional exercise, but it also keeps you from getting bored because you’re constantly switching up your routine.
Here’s the best part: HIIT saves you from spending hours in the gym. Why? Because a typical training session is less than 20 minutes!
Simply take any cardiovascular exercise you love doing—like walking, bicycling, or rowing—and alternate between light and high intensities.
This is what a typical HIIT exercise session looks like:
– 5 minutes: warmup
– 90 seconds: light to moderate intensity
– 30 seconds: high intensity
– Repeat alternating light to moderate and high intensity intervals 4 more times
– 5 minutes: cool down
That’s it! You’re done!
Workout #2: CrossFit
Another extremely quick way to help you feel more comfortable and confident in that bathing suit is CrossFit.
CrossFit is a form of exercise that incorporates movement you normally engage in, such as squatting down to lift a grocery bag. However, it requires that you perform them at a fairly high intensity.
Like HIIT, CrossFit can help you develop a beach-ready body faster because one 10-20 minute session burns up to 261 calories. Depending on your current weight, you’d have to walk or bicycle for about an hour to burn the same amount!
These types of classes are almost everywhere these days, making it super easy to pick the one that best fits with your schedule. Speaking of scheduling…
Do What Works for YOU
“Create a fitness schedule for YOU” is the advice College News gives incoming students to help them avoid the dreaded freshman 15.
Meaning, regardless of which workout you choose, make sure you include it in your daily routine at a time that works best for your lifestyle and calendar. That way, you’re more likely to stick with it!
Once you figure out that perfect time of day in your schedule, when completing your workout seems most likely, expect a more toned and trim body just in time for bathing suit season to officially arrive.
And if you’re still working on accomplishing your goal by the time you hit the beach, that’s okay! May I remind you that summer is not simply a weekend or even a week! Summer is an entire season, giving you plenty of time to kick that goals butt!
With that being said, don’t forget to have a good time and create memories in the process. That is what life is about anyway, isn’t it?
